Whole-house joinery and fit-out for architects and designers

A whole-house fit-out is not one commission but forty, and the risk sits in how they meet: the panelling that has to line up with the doors, the library that has to take the stair newel, the wardrobes that must clear a radiator nobody has moved yet. We make the joinery for the whole house in one workshop in Mickfield, Suffolk, so that it is drawn, made, finished and fitted as a single package by one team.

What a whole-house package covers

Packages are scoped to the architect’s or designer’s drawings and typically run across several of the following, with timber, paint and polish matched from room to room:

  • Doors, door linings, architraves and skirtings
  • Wall panelling, libraries, studies and alcove units
  • Fitted wardrobes, dressing rooms and bedroom furniture
  • Staircases, balustrades and handrails
  • Kitchens, sculleries, pantries and boot rooms made to the same specification
  • Windows and glazed screens where the scheme calls for them

Drawn twice before anything is cut

Every commission is drawn twice: first in CAD to resolve the design and coordinate with the other trades, then again at full size as a rod, which is how the joinery is actually set out and checked against the building. Dimensions are taken from the site, not the plan, and anything that does not agree is raised with you before it reaches the bench.

Programme and coordination

Typical commissions run from six weeks for smaller packages to around six months for a large house, with most delivered in sixteen to twenty weeks from order. We work to the main contractor’s programme, give you a drawing schedule with dates, and fit with our own people rather than subcontracting the installation.

Who we work with

Architects, interior designers, main contractors and home builders, and private clients who come to us through them. There is no minimum project size: we take on a single vanity unit in London as readily as a whole house, and prices are quoted plus VAT. Most of our work is in London and the Home Counties, and we also work in Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and further afield.

Where a single room is what you need

For a single kitchen, or a run of fitted wardrobes in one room, Square & True is the right place to start. It is our bespoke English kitchen brand, made in the same workshop by the same people, and it takes retail commissions directly.

To discuss a scheme, send us the drawings through the contact page or ring the workshop on 01449 710500.
