London, Home Counties & beyond
Bespoke Joinery for Country Houses in the Home Counties and Cotswolds
Alongside our London work, we undertake country-house programmes across the Home Counties and the Cotswolds, including Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. These are typically larger houses where joinery runs through several rooms and has to read as one scheme.
What these houses usually ask for
- Fitted libraries and studies.
- Dressing rooms and wardrobes.
- Panelled reception spaces and entrance halls.
- Staircases, doors and windows made to suit the age and character of the house.
One workshop, many rooms
Because everything is designed, made and finished in our Mickfield workshop, timber, colour and detail stay consistent from room to room.
Drawn before it is made
Each commission starts with a measured site survey, then full workshop drawings in SolidWorks and approved samples of timber and ironmongery before a board is cut. Work is made in Suffolk and installed by our own site team.
Working with architects and designers
A significant share of our work comes through architects and interior designers. See our page for architects and interior designers, or our page for builders and contractors.
Start a conversation
Tell us about the house, the rooms and the programme. Estimates are quoted plus VAT. Contact the workshop or see our trade estimates page.
Do you work outside London?
Yes. Most of our work is in London and the Home Counties, and we also work in the Cotswolds, East Anglia, across the UK and, by arrangement, in Europe.
Who fits the joinery?
Our own site team installs everything we make, so responsibility stays with one company.
Matching what is already in the house
Many country houses already carry good joinery: a panelled hall, a library, a staircase with a particular profile. We copy mouldings properly and match timber, colour and finish by eye against the existing work, so that new rooms read as part of the house and not as a later addition.
Listed and period houses
Where a house is listed or in a conservation area, joinery changes usually need consent and the detail matters to the conservation officer as much as to the owner. We prepare the drawings and sections that support an application and make to the approved detail. For more on how consent affects the work, read our guide to listed buildings and bespoke joinery. We are not planning consultants, so consent itself is for you and your architect or agent to secure.
Working with the house team
Estate managers, house managers and architects all have a say in a country-house programme, and the work often has to fit around a family living in the house. We plan access, protection and working hours with whoever runs the house, and our own fitters install everything we make. Our guide to fitting joinery into an occupied house sets out how that works in practice.
Where this work sits in our range
Staircases, panelling, libraries and windows made for country houses are covered in more detail on our staircase, timber panelling and timber window pages. For London houses, see bespoke joinery in London and the Home Counties. For a single kitchen, our sister brand Square & True is the right place to start.
To talk through a house, send us the drawings through the contact page or ring the workshop on 01449 710500.
Send us the drawings, or call the workshop
Architects, designers, contractors and private clients are all welcome. Send your drawings or a brief and we will come back with a clear, honest view of scope, programme and cost.
